Based on Jack Heifner's smash hit comedy that ran for
5 years, VANITIES, a New Musical, spans the turbulent
'60's through the late '80's and explores the equally
tumultuous lives and loves of three best friends. With
a tunefully evocative score by David Kirshenbaum,
VANITIES is a funny and poignant look at women who
discover that even in 30 years of rapidly changing
times, friendship can last forever.
Vanities runs approximately 1 hour and
45 minutes without an intermission.

Jack Heifner (Book) is best known for
Vanities, a new musical, which ran
for five years in New York and became one of the longest
running plays in Off-Broadway history. He is also the
author of Patio/Porch, Natural Disasters, Running On
Empty, Bargains, Jumping for Joy, Boy’s Play,
Home Fires,
Heartbreak, Comfort And Joy, The Lemon Cookie,
Dwarf
Tossing and other plays produced in New York, Los Angeles
and theatres around the country. Mr. Heifner has written
the book to six musicals, including
Leader Of The Pack on
Broadway. He has also written for television and film.
David Kirshenbaum (Music and Lyrics) is the
composer-lyricist for Party Come Here (book by Daniel Goldfarb), which was performed at the
Williamstown Theater
Festival in the summer of 2007. Other productions include
Summer of ’42 (book by Hunter Foster) and Yes, Virginia,
There is a Santa Claus (book by Myles McDonnell).
Current/upcoming projects include Sing me a Happy Song, a
new revue (in collaboration with songwriter George Stritt)
and an original musical he is writing with Joe DiPietro.
Kirshenbaum has received grants from the
Jonathan Larson
Foundation as well as a writer’s residency at Goodspeed
Musicals through the
National Alliance for Musical
Theatre. The 2-CD album of his scores from
Summer of ’42
was recently released by JAY Records.
Judith Ivey (Director): has been awarded the
Tony Award
twice, the Drama Desk Award twice, the OBIE Award, the
Dramalogue award twice and she was honored with the Topaz
Award from Women in Film-Dallas. She has also been honored
by the Drama League of New York three times, received an
honorary doctorate from her alma mater, Illinois State
University, and most recently, was inducted into the
Texas
Film Hall of Fame. Judy has starred in four TV series,
Designing Women being the most memorable and has, been
nominated for one Emmy Award and starred or been featured
in over 40 films including the 2006 Clint Eastwood film,
Flags of our Fathers. Judith performed solo, portraying 12
different women in Women on Fire by Irene O'Garden and
directed by Mary B. Robinson at the
Cherry Lane Theatre.
For this performance, she received the Sydney Kingsley/Madge
Evans Award from the
Dramatists' Guild, and a Lucille Lortel nomination for Best Solo Performance. Judith also
directed Yeardley Smith in her one-woman show, MORE,
off-Broadway. And in July 2004, Judith starred as Desiree
in A Little Night Musical for the LA Opera, opposite
Victor Garber.
