The FRIENDS of the Pasadena Playhouse
The FRIENDS assist with ushering, prepare meals for performers, assist with mailings and perform other volunteer assistance that is needed. Volunteer committees include Hospitality, Membership, Newsletter, Office Help, Public Relations, Special Events, Raffles and Ushers.
The FRIENDS have provided many special services, including decorating The Pasadena Playhouse float for the 1993 Tournament of Roses Parade, and even appeared as onstage "visitors" in a Pasadena Playhouse production. They have published two cookbooks using recipes cooked for the cast dinners and recipes from volunteers, staff and actors. A favorite event is the annual FRED (FRIENDS Recognition of Entertaining Drama) Awards, where members vote on favorite actors, actresses and shows from the previous season and honor the winners.
Pasadena Playhouse Alumni & Associates
The Pasadena Playhouse Alumni & Associates was founded in 1953 as a non-profit corporation, and presently has over 400 members.
With a strong history as an educational institution that dates back to 1928, The Pasadena Playhouse was once a training ground for many Hollywood stars, including Robert Young, Barbara Rush, Victor Jory, Raymond Burr, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, Leonard Nimoy and Sally Struthers. Though the school closed over forty years ago, the Alumni & Associates continues to be an active part of The Playhouse, offering associate memberships to Playhouse staff and descendants of alumni.
Our single greatest contribution to our beloved alma mater is the creation and administration of The Henry and Joyce Sumid Scholarship. The fund was created in 2005 as a bequest from alumnus Henry Sumid, with the direction to create a scholarship program for students of the arts in need of financial assistance. Over the last few years, the Alumni & Associates have awarded $70,000 in scholarships to college students in the performing arts.
The Ambassadors of The Pasadena Playhouse
Formed two years ago, The Ambassadors is a group charged with the mission of promoting The Playhouse to garner new supporters and to steward current supporters. They also seek to attract new people wanting to be more involved with The Playhouse at large. The Ambassadors act as hosts in the Makineni Library both before shows and during intermissions to Playhouse donors, potential donors, invited guests and special parties.
Long-time Board member and Playhouse champion Peggy Ebright has put together a great group of Playhouse devotees who are enjoying the interaction and adventures of helping others embrace our beautiful theatre. For information on joining The Ambassadors, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
