Matinee partner Duarte HS shares some love after attending Real Women Have Curves and working pre- and post-shows with teaching artist Jesse Bush.
High School students from our partner schools attending the first Student Matinee of the season: Real Women Have Curves.
Beginning in the fall of 2015, The Pasadena Playhouse reinvigorated its celebrated student matinee program. 15 member schools attend 4 productions - or on-campus events - over the course of a school year. Additionally, each school is “given” a teaching artist who remains with them for the duration of their membership.
This year, the matinees are as follows:
Wednesday, September 23 @ 10:30am –
Real Women Have Curves by Josefina Lopez
Wednesday, November 4 @ 10:30am –
Breaking Through by Kirsten Guenther (book)
and Katie Kahanovitz & Cliff Downs (music & lyrics)
Wednesday, February 3 @ 10:30am –
Fly by Trey Ellis & Ricardo Khan
Wednesday, March 23 @ 10:30am –
Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein
The schools are able to use the tickets as they see fit – for one class to attend all 4 shows, for classes to attend one show each, etc. Each relationship is customized to best serve the needs of the school with whom we are partnering. In the case where a show may be inappropriate for a particular partner, we create an alternative experience in collaboration with the school so the artistic needs of the students may still be met.
Membership in the program includes the following:
50(ish) tickets to all 4 productions listed above
A “Resident” Teaching Artist for your school
Up to 10 pre- and/or post-show workshops
Special multi-school mixer events throughout the season
Opportunities for post-show discussions with cast and affiliated artists
Supporting material with Common Core and Arts Standards tie-ins
The program is inclusive, relationship-based and partially subsidized by our generous funders. We are committed to making it available to all groups who qualify on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for the program will be available toward the end of the Spring semester.
