In our theatre we tell great stories…
The art of storytelling has been a vital practice throughout our existence. We have fairly certain knowledge that cavemen and cavewomen gathered around a fire and “acted out” tales for each other. Given this, it seems that our coming together to be enlightened and entertained by sharing good stories has been as basic to our lives as food and water. The manner in which we’ve achieved that art has surely become more sophisticated throughout centuries. But at the heart of it all is our basic desire to reflect our lives, and to expand our minds and souls by sharing good stories.
That is exactly what we hope to do here at The Pasadena Playhouse during the 2014–2015 Season. Good storytelling can make for great theatre. That is what we aim for—making great theatre! On the Mainstage with the six upcoming productions, in our HOTHOUSE new play development program, with “Mi Historia…” (our new initiative reaching out to the Latino community through the generous support of the Irvine Foundation), and even with our talkbacks and discussion series. Great stories will fill our building and reach all of our communities and constituents throughout our exciting theatrical year.
In our beautiful theatre, just as around that campfire, the storytellers need an audience for the magic to happen. We invite you to be a part of this great experience by subscribing to our upcoming season. Once again we are aiming for the theatrical diversity that has brought electricity to our stage for many years. All of us here at The Playhouse along with the artists who join our artistic community will do our best to prepare these stories with artistry and excellence. In truth, we need you to truly make the stories come ALIVE! I hope that you will join us throughout the year.
