Furious Theatre Generalist
Artistic/Literary/Education
The Artistic/Literary/Education Intern will work with the
Artistic Associates of Pasadena Playhouse to develop literary,
programmatic and performance materials and events.
This work will include, but will not be limited to reading, logging
and providing coverage for scripts under consideration for our new
work series as well as our Mainstage season; Assistant Producing at
least one reading in our “Hothouse at the Playhouse” new work
series; creating study guides for our student matinee series;
teaching in our partner schools; assisting and supporting all
non-Mainstage programming (i.e. special events, community
collaborations, docented group visits, etc.); attending all
departmental meetings, all meet & greets with casts, special
off-site meetings with community partners to discuss and observe
supplemental programming (i.e. schools with teaching-artist
residencies, Occidental College to discuss fall semester course,
etc.); possibly producing a chamber theatre piece of the Intern’s
devising in our Carrie Hamilton Theatre.
Development/Event Coordination/Grants & Archives
The Development Intern will assist the Director of Development
and Special Events Manager in the planning and preparation of
Playhouse fundraising events to be held throughout the year. This
Intern may be involved in preparing solicitation lists for cash and
in-kind contributions; attending committee meetings; reviewing
graphic design and printing specifications for invitations and
collateral materials; and researching rentals, entertainment and
other logistical aspects of event planning.
This work will also include, but not be limited to involvement in
the on-going appeal for donations from individuals and
organizations; using ProVenue ticketing and donor database software;
drafting letters; tracking and providing donor benefits; working
with our Grants Specialist to prepare supporting material for grant
proposals; online research regarding giving programs elsewhere;
inventing new opportunities to generate funding; research projects
associated with Pasadena Playhouse’s extensive archives.
Marketing/PR/Communications/Outreach
The Marketing/PR/Communications/Outreach Intern will work with
the department staff to identify and cultivate new audiences through
special campaigns and promotions. The Intern will also work to help
engage local, regional and national media to publicize both current
and future productions and enhance the reputation of the theatre.
This work will include, but not be limited to assisting in the
creation of targeted marketing campaigns to specific segments of the
community; drafting press releases for productions; generating and
working outreach and special events; contributing to the copy and
graphic design of advertisements, brochures, and other printed
materials; writing copy and/or creating images for publications,
such as performance programs; assisting with special ticket
promotions and special events at the theatre; contacting community
organizations to invite participation in the theatre; developing web
content including graphic and video design. The Intern will attend
all department meetings including the weekly Communications and
Marketing meetings and at least one “brainstorming” meeting for the
marketing of an individual production.
Operations/Administration
The Operations/Administration Intern will work on projects in
the areas of Finance, Human Resources and Office/Facilities
Management. This will include practical day-to-day tasks as well as
participating in a financial audit and improving administrative
record keeping and financial systems.
This work will include, but not be limited to creating and
implementing policies as they relate to finance, records retention,
operations and strategic planning for Pasadena Playhouse; working
with the Executive Assistant to research and prepare for Pasadena
Playhouse Board Meetings; working with the Operations Manager on
day-to-day facilities management; mail processing; special projects
to be determined by Intern interest and Playhouse need.
Stage Management/Production
The Stage Management/Production Intern will work with Production
Manager Dan Healey in a variety of production capacities on the two
stages of Pasadena Playhouse. In the 654 seat main house, the Intern
will have the opportunity to assist Stage Management as well as
serve on run-crews for various productions. In the black box Carrie
Hamilton Theatre, the S.M./Production Intern will serve as sole
Stage Manager for “Hothouse at the Playhouse,” Pasadena Playhouse’s
new work series. There may also be opportunities for the Intern to
experience specific technical components of production, based on
Intern interest and staff availability.
Furious Theatre General
Intern
Furious Theatre Company is in residence at the Carrie Hamilton
Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse. The Furious Theatre Intern will work
with the Marketing and Administrative Director in multiple
capacities, with duties including but not limited to viral
distribution of production marketing campaigns via YouTube, MySpace,
blogs, Facebook and search engines; strategizing and executing
program ad sales as well as sales of production specific
merchandise; developing and managing marketing calendar; tracking
and processing all incoming script submissions; assisting the
Marketing Manager with data entry and management in CRM programs;
fundraising and seeking out potential individual and corporate
donors; construction and organization of materials for mailings;
assisting with Board Meeting preparation and communications.
