  • If participants cancel at least ten (10) days before the start of that class or camp, they may receive a full refund.
  • Participants cancelling between 9 -1 days before the start of class or camp may receive a 50% refund.
  • No refunds for classes cancelled the first day of a class or camp, or anytime after the class or camp has started.
  • Students should have no more than 1 planned absence from their class or camp.
  • Refunds are issued through our Education Registrar (626-344-8979) or education@pasadenaplayhouse.org.

“What is your absence policy?”

  • Each student is allowed 2 absences for the duration of class (barring illness, pre-planned travel, or emergencies). Your student’s part is at jeopardy of reassignment if they have more than 2 unexcused absences.
  • Dress rehearsal, which will take place on the second-to-last class (1 week before your final performance date) is MANDATORY. Please do not sign up for a class session if you know ahead of time your student will miss the dress rehearsal or performance.

“When is Drop Off and Pick Up?”

  • We allow for a 10 minute drop-off window before class starts; we cannot be responsible for supervising your student prior to 10 minutes before or after class. Pick up is promptly when the class is done.

“What Does My Student Need to Bring to Class?”

  • Every day, your student should come with:
    • A water bottle
    • Closed toed shoes
    • Clothes they can move in comfortably
    • Their script (which they will receive the 2nd day of class)
  • For dress rehearsals and performances, your student will need to provide their costume “Base Layer”
  • The Base Layer is:
    • A plain white or black undershirt (T-shirt or tank top)
    • Black dance/bike shorts or leggings
  • These are modesty garments that will be worn under their costumes so that no student is fully undressing backstage.

“When and Where is the Final Performance?”

  • Your student’s final performances will take place in the Carrie Hamilton Black Box Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse on the evening of their last day of class (either May 19, May 20, May 21, or May 22,  depending on your class session). Each class will have two showtimes, at 5pm and 6:30pm.

“Are there differences between the four sessions?”

  • Each session (class day) of Playhouse Players: Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids will rehearse the same production, but with with their unique cast comprised of the students in that class session. You may not switch between class sessions (If your student is in the Tuesday session, they must always come to rehearsal on Tuesday, and perform in the Tuesday show).

“How does casting work?”

  • Students will audition all together on the first day of class, and receive role assignments on the second day of class. Before the first day, we will provide students’ families with the songs for the singing audition, but instructors will also teach and practice the songs with the whole group on the first day.
  • No student will be forced to sing by themselves if they don’t want to audition for a singing solo, but if they decline to participate in the audition, they will not receive a role with a solo singing part. They will still have a role in the show that sings with the whole group.
  • Just like a grown-up musical, there are principal roles and ensemble roles within the show, and every student will receive their own individual role assignment. We rely heavily on the entire ensemble of students and every role is essential to the production. We aim to cast so that every student is very busy during their rehearsals!

“I have an 11 or 12 year old, should they do Jungle Book or Once Upon A Mattress? What is the difference?”

  • Jungle Book is simpler material and great for newcomers and veterans alike. Your child will be among the oldest students in the program and be able to mentor younger children. This is a wonderful introduction to anyone interested in being part of a production; no experience necessary.
  • Once Upon a Mattress is more complex material and will be more challenging, requiring additional focus and dedication. Your child will be among the youngest in the cast and will be able to learn from the older students who are part of the production. There will be more challenging harmonies and choreography.
