“When is Drop Off and Pick Up?”

  • We will open our doors at 8:50am. Until then, we are not responsible for supervising your camper. Pick up is at 3:30pm. There is no aftercare available at this time.

“How Many Campers Are in Each Session?”

  • A maximum of 42 campers will be in each session of Playhouse Players: Matilda the Musical JR. Within each session, students will be divided into 2 casts of up to 21 students.

“What Does My Student Need to Bring to Camp?”

  • Every day, your camper should come with:
    • A lunch and snacks
    • A water bottle
    • Closed toed shoes
    • Clothes they can move in comfortably
    • Their script (which they will receive the 2nd day of camp)
  • For dress rehearsals and performances, your camper will need to provide their costume “Base Layer”
  • The Base Layer is:
    • A plain white or black undershirt (T-shirt or tank top)
    • Black dance/bike shorts or leggings
  • These are modesty garments that will be worn under their costumes so that no camper is fully undressing backstage.

“What is the Daily Schedule?”

  • Here’s a sample schedule for a day of camp:
    • 9:00-9:30am: Check-Ins and Vocal/Physical Warm Up
    • 9:30-10:30am: Blocking Rehearsal
    • 10:30-11:30am: Music Rehearsal
    • 11:30am-12:00pm: Lunch
    • 12:00pm-12:30pm: Outdoor Games
    • 12:30-2:00pm: Choreography Rehearsal
    • 2:00-3:00pm: Special Workshop
    • 3:00-3:30pm: Review and Share

“When is the Final Performance?”

  • Each cast will have two performances at the end of camp – one on the last Thursday of the camp session, and one on the last Friday of the camp session. Each cast will have an afternoon and an evening performance, either on the Thursday OR the Friday. Your camper’s specific performance times and schedule will be given to you during the first week of camp, once the whole group is split into their two casts. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for campers to have specific performance times, so please plan to have your camper occupied with performances up until 5:30pm on the last two days of their camp session. There will be no tickets sold for the performances – seating capacity allows for each student to have 3 guests maximum to attend each showtime.

“Are there differences between the four sessions?”

  • No; it’s the same camp, just four different dates to accommodate more campers’ summer schedules.

“I have an 11 or 12 year old, should they do Matilda or the show for ages 11-16 (title TBD)? What is the difference?”

  • Matilda campers will have more time to play throughout the day. Your child will be among the oldest students in the program and be able to mentor younger children. This is a wonderful introduction to anyone interested in being part of a production; no experience necessary.
  • The other show will be more challenging, requiring additional focus and dedication. Your child will be among the youngest in the cast and will be able to learn from the older students who are part of the production. There will be more challenging harmonies and choreography.

“How does casting work?”

  • Campers will audition all together on the first day of camp, and receive role assignments at the end of the day. Before the first day, we will provide camp families with the songs for the singing audition, but instructors will also teach and practice the songs with the whole group on the first day.
  • No camper will be forced to sing by themselves if they don’t want to audition for a singing solo, but if they decline to participate in the audition, they will not receive a role with a solo singing part. They will still have a role in the show that sings with the whole group.
  • Just like a grown-up musical, there are principal roles and ensemble roles within the show, and every student will receive their own individual role assignment. We rely heavily on the entire ensemble of students and every role is essential to the production. We aim to cast so that every camper is very busy during their rehearsals!
