Playhouse Players: 13 JR.  |

Summer 2025

We’re bringing together our (slightly) older theatermakers ages 11 through 15 (rising 6th – 9th graders) for an incredible 2-week Playhouse Players summer experience. Students will gather daily to level up their acting, singing, and dancing skills with top-notch instructors, all culminating in a showstopping final performance of 13 JR. There’s no better way to spend your summer than with your friends at the Playhouse.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a limited number of partial scholarships available for our Summer Camps. If you are interested in a scholarship, please apply using the link below.

The deadline for scholarship applications is March 24, 2025.

About 13 JR.

With a catchy rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, The Bridges of Madison County) and a hilarious book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie, Shucked) and Dan Elish (13), 13 JR. tells a timeless story about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents’ divorce. Now the new kid at school, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain… or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

“[My student] loved being a part of this theatre camp community and felt a strong sense comradery with her peers. What you are giving your students is gold!”

-Parent, Camp Parent

“My Student is 11. How do I Decide Whether they Should Attend Playhouse Players: The Little Mermaid or Playhouse Players: 13 Jr.?”

  • You know your child best! If your student has performance experience and would thrive in a more challenging environment with older peers, this is the program for them! If they are new to theatre, they may be a better fit for Playhouse Players: The Little Mermaid Jr. We recommend rising 6th graders join Playhouse Players: 13 Jr., and rising 5th graders join Playhouse Players: The Little Mermaid.

  • There will be approx 25 students admitted.

“Is there a Final Performance? When is it?”

  • Yes; Playhouse Players students will perform the musical 13 Jr. at the end of their 2-week session. The performance will take place on their last day of camp, July 11th, in the Carrie Hamilton Black Box Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse. There will be afternoon and evening performances – exact times TBD. There will be no tickets sold for this performance, but each student will be able to invite a couple guests to their shows. More details about the performance will be given to the families closer to the start of camp, but plan to have your student occupied until 7:30pm on their show day.

“What Does My Student Need to Bring to Camp?”

  • Every day, your camper should come with:
    • A lunch and snacks
    • A water bottle
    • Closed toed shoes
    • Clothes they can move in comfortably
    • Their script (which they will receive the 2nd day of camp)
  • For dress rehearsals and performances, your camper will need to provide their costume “Base Layer”
  • The Base Layer is:
    • A plain white or black undershirt (T-shirt or tank top)
    • Black dance/bike shorts or leggings
  • These are modesty garments that will be worn under their costumes so that no camper is fully undressing backstage.
