Shadow Puppetry |
Ages 14+This fall, join writer, director, and puppet artist Sam Rotengold for a hands-on crash course into the highly accessible yet deceptively complex art of shadow puppetry. Over the course of this three week deep dive, participants will explore traditional performance techniques and puppetry construction as well as contemporary technology and cinematic language, culminating in a look at how contemporary artists are synthesizing the two into new and original performance work.
Come ready to cut, carve, and collaborate as we stage sweeping sagas and personal portraits from little more than light and darkness — and leave with your own puppets! This workshop is intended for all experience levels and artistic backgrounds. Participants are welcome to come with practical applications in mind, or to simply learn more about this rich and humble art form.
PLEASE NOTE: We have a limited number of partial scholarships available, which will be offered on a rolling basis. If you are interested in a scholarship, please apply using the link below.
