The Big Feelings Adventure (TK-2nd)
Grab your imagination, we’re going on an adventure! In this guided dramatic experience, students will turn their classroom into a different world and not only embody the characters they meet along the way – but also explore their emotions. Through imaginative play and creative improvisation, students will practice social-emotional skills through the transformative power of theater.
Story Theater (TK-3rd)
Take a book from the page to the stage! Young storytellers will use the actor’s tools of voice, body, collaboration, and imagination to bring a picture book to life. Creating the setting, taking turns playing roles, and staging the narrative, students will learn the basics of story structure and have a blast discovering their own creative voices.
Our Class: The Musical (3rd – 6th)
Another openin’, another show! In this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of songwriting, composition, and choreography, and experience how these art forms all come together in musical theater to take dramatization to the next level! Working as a team, students will create their own “opening number” to a brand new, never-been-seen before original musical — building confidence, expressing themselves, and celebrating their community as a class.
Theatermakers (4th – 12th, Adults)
How can you take an idea and turn it into a piece of theater–instantly? In this introduction to devised theater, students explore ensemble storytelling techniques to create short, original, collaborative performances in their classroom while learning to effectively communicate their creative vision.
Acting Fundamentals (6th- 12th, Adults)
Great acting starts with listening. In this engaging workshop, students will explore the core principles of truthful, naturalistic performance by learning how to connect authentically with a scene partner, analyze a script to uncover a character’s objectives, and use tactics to bring every moment to life. Through dynamic scene work and acting exercises, participants will build confidence, strengthen their storytelling skills, and discover how honest human connection creates compelling performances.
Audition Workshop (8th-12th)
In this performance workshop, students prepare either a monologue or a 32-bar cut of an audition song to participate in a mock audition. The teaching artist will not only coach each performer on their audition pieces, but also give valuable feedback on audition etiquette and expectations for college and the professional world. Schools may provide an accompanist, we can bring one for an extra charge, or students may bring karaoke tracks for audition songs.
Elements of Design (6th-12th)
In this hands-on workshop guided by a professional theatrical designer, students learn about the collaboration process between lighting, costume, sound, and set design to create a cohesive production. Using text from a play or musical, students will analyze their interpretations of the themes, characters, and setting and learn how to translate their ideas into a visual medium. Perfect for tying into English, Literature, Visual Art, Technology, or Drama curricula.
Shadow Puppetry (4th-12th, Adults)
How can we create a story with just shadow and light? In this hands-on workshop, students will transform their classroom into a puppet theater and learn the basic principles of shadow-puppeteering, as well as the main ingredients for writing a compelling story. Then, they apply what they’ve learned to puppets of their own creation, putting on a show for their classmates!
Improv and Ensemble Building (3rd- 12th, Adults)
Step out of your comfort zone and onto the “stage” in this fun, team-building workshop perfect for newcomers to theater and performance of all ages. Participants will play theater games and engage in improv, clowning, and acting exercises that will teach us the power of “Yes, And!” While bonding with peers, building empathy, and laughing a lot, students will reflect on how performing techniques can help us be better, more collaborative humans.
